After weeks of internal battles over who would call the shots in Donald Trump’s campaign for President, Trump today announced that campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was out, a surprise shakeup just four weeks before the start of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

In a statement to news organizations, Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks offered few details on why Lewandowski was being let go, saying only that “Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign.”

Hicks added that Trump was also grateful for his “hard work and dedication.”

Lewandowski had been a controversial figure for months, after physically restraining a female reporter who was trying to speak to Trump after a campaign event.

“Paul Manafort is in charge,” said Trump surrogate Barry Bennett during a morning appearance on Fox News.

The announcement of Lewandowski’s ouster comes after a rough week for Trump, as his reaction to the nightclub terror attack in Orlando raised eyebrows among Republicans in Congress, as a number of GOP elected officials openly questioned whether Trump should be their party’s nominee.
